Science teacher at a secondary
I wanted to allow children to explore and learn about complex concepts and be able to understand them. I wanted to be the teacher that allows children to enjoy what they are learning and see how it fits in their everyday life and how they can use what they have learnt to succeed and go further.
As I was working prior to training as a teacher it allowed me to bridge that gap really well. The SCITT programme has allowed me to gain immediate experience in a school setting and be based most of the time in a school. This has allowed me to get a better understanding of what is required as a teacher and build better relationships with staff and students.
Prioritising your time. Time needs to be effectively managed to make sure that lessons are planned, assignments are completed and other tasks related to the course are completed.
The mentors are easily contactable and happy to help and provide support. Support is granted by the SCITT and from mentors at the placement school which means a support network is available to make sure any obstacle can be overcome.
Being able to see the progress that you have made as a teacher. It is a really rewarding journey and the feedback, support and hard work that you have put in will make you a better teacher and you can see how much you have improved as the course has progressed.
Every child is unique and being able to get to know them and how they learn is incredibly rewarding. That moment when children are able to understand concepts that they found difficult at first is priceless.
